● WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
Participants in each category can be:
- Student animated short films: Students (+18) or Educational Centers that have made their films within their study programs for Degrees, Master's Degrees, Training Cycles or Specialized Schools.
- New Animation Directors: First Feature Films by directors have made their first animated short film as professionals, outside of the university programmes.
● CONTEST RULES
- The participation in Prime the Animation! 14 New Talent International Festival, implies the full acceptance of these rules. In addition, it implies the commitment of veracity of the participants in the registration forms of their films for the festival.
- Each short film can only be registered in one category offered by the festival. (The festival reserves the option of eliminating the film from one of the categories, in the event that both are registered).
- To participate in the Student Animated Short Films category, it is mandatory to provide an official certificate issued by the corresponding university, educational institution or specialised school. Failure to provide this document will constitute a breach of these rules and may result in the disqualification of the work.
● TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
- All submitted films for the competition must be produced after January 1, 2025.
- The allowed length, intro and credits included, is 12 minutes.
- The theme is free, and registration is open to all animation short films from any country in the world.
- All animation techniques are accepted (3D, 2D, stop motion, mixed media), that is, any type of short film created frame-by-frame.
- The animation short films, frame-by-frame, should include animation in at least 85% of the footage.
- Films or posters created using artificial intelligence will not be admitted.
- All works with dialogues in a foreign language (other than Spanish/Spanish) must be translated into Spanish/Spanish. Preferably, with subtitles (embedded) in the short film. If it is not possible, the text (translated into Spanish) must be sent, and the Festival is authorized to subtitle the film in the format it deems convenient.
- A screening copy must be uploaded to the FilmFreeway platform, so that, in case that the short film is selected, it is accessible for download.
- The screening copy of the films must be available in the following format:
• 1080p (1920x1080)
• 25 frames per second
• 18/15mbps bit rate and multipass when exporting for higher streaming quality.
• Codec H264 or ProRes442HQ.
• (DCP is not supported).
- If you participate in any category of animated shorts, you can upload the poster of your short film and compete for the Best Poster award of this edition. Indicated format:
• JPG file type.
• 8MB.
It is important that the quality of the viewing is optimal, without watermarks.

● COMMUNICATION OF THE SELECTION
The selected short films for Prime the Animation! 14, Will be published on the website during the month of October 2026: http://primetheanimation.upv.es/
The organization will communicate by email and through the Filmfreeway platform to all participants the result of the selection and with a minimum of fifteen days in advance.
In no case will it be mandatory the presence of the directors or representatives of the short films at the festival in order to be selected or awarded.
● EVENT
Prime the Animation! 14 New Talent International Festival, will take place from October 24th to 31th, 2026, in:
• The Faculty of Fine Arts at the Universitat Politècnica de València
• La Filmoteca - Institut Valencià de Cultura
• Headquarters of partner institutions
The screenings will be a non-profit event for students, professionals, and general audiences.
● RIGHTS/ASSIGNMENTS
- The rights of the selected short films will be transferred to the festival for the screening during the celebration of the event at their venues.
- The winners will transfer the rights of the films to the festival for their screening in national or international presentations of the Festival.
- The author, producer or distributor that registers the film declares that he or she owns all the rights to the work, by making legitimate use of it. Prime the animation! It is not responsible for any complaint by copyright claim for the public exhibition of films containing protected material.
- The organization reserves the right to use extracts (maximum 20 seconds) or frames of the selected works for the promotion of the festival.
- Short films must be registered through the Filmfreeway platform: https://filmfreeway.com/PrimeTheAnimation

● ¿QUIÉN PUEDE PARTICIPAR?
- Cortos de animación de Estudiantes: Estudiantes (mayores de 18 años) o Centros Educativos que hayan realizado sus películas dentro de sus programas de estudios de Grado, Máster Universitario, Ciclos Formativos o Escuelas Especializadas.
- Nuevos Directores/Directoras de Animación: Operas Primas, convocatoria dirigida a directores o directoras que hayan realizado su primer cortometraje de animación como profesionales, fuera del ámbito universitario.
● CONDICIONES DE INSCRIPCIÓN
- La participación en Prime the Animation! 14 New Talent International Festival, implica la aceptación íntegra de estas bases. Además, del compromiso de veracidad de los participantes sobre sus respuestas en los cuestionarios de inscripción de sus películas al festival. Prime the Animation! 14 New Talent International Festival.
- Cada cortometraje solo podrá ser inscrito en una categoría de las que ofrece el festival. (el festival se reserva la opción de eliminar la película de una de las categorías, en el caso de que se inscriba a ambas).
- Para participar en la categoría de Cortos de animación de Estudiantes, será imprescindible presentar un certificado oficial de la universidad, centro educativo o escuela correspondiente. La falta de este documento supondrá el incumplimiento de las presentes bases y podrá conllevar la descalificación de la obra.
● ESPECIFICACIONES TÉCNICAS
- Todas las obras deben estar realizadas con animación fotograma a fotograma como mínimo en un 85% de su metraje.
- No se admitirán películas ni carteles creados utilizando inteligencia artificial.
- Se aceptan todas las técnicas de animación (3D digital, 2D, stopmotion, etc.) es decir, cualquier tipo de audiovisual que esté creado usando la técnica de fotograma a fotograma.
- Todos los cortometrajes presentados a concurso deberán estar producidos con posterioridad al 1 de enero de 2025.
- La duración de los cortometrajes no deberá exceder los 12 minutos, incluyendo créditos.
- La temática es libre y está abierta la inscripción a todos los cortometrajes de animación provenientes de cualquier país del mundo.
- Los y las participantes subirán su película en versión original con subtítulos (incrustados) en castellano, siempre y cuando el idioma del cortometraje no sea el castellano.
- Todas las obras en lengua extranjera que no estén subtituladas en castellano y que contengan diálogos, deberán ir acompañadas de sus correspondientes textos en PDF (ya traducidos), quedando autorizado el Festival a poder llevar a cabo el subtitulado en base a dicho guion. (Admitimos subtítulos en formato .srt)
- Deberá subirse una copia de proyección a la plataforma FilmFreeway, para que, en el caso de ser seleccionado el cortometraje, pueda estar accesible para su descarga.
- La copia de proyección de las películas debe estar disponible en uno de los siguientes formatos:
• Tamaño1080p, (1920x1080).
• 24/25 frames por segundo.
• 18/15mbps de velocidad de bits y multipass al exportar para mayor calidad. Preferiblemente por agilidad de los envíos.
• Codificación H264 o ProRes442HQ.
• (No se admite DCP).
- Si participas en cualquier categoría de cortos de animación, puedes subir el cartel de tu cortometraje y optar al premio al Mejor Cartel de esta edición. Formato indicado:
• Tipo de archivo JPG
• 8 MB
Es importante que la calidad del visionado sea óptima, sin marcas de agua.

● COMUNICACIÓN DE LA SELECCIÓN
Los cortometrajes seleccionados en Prime the Animation! 14 New Talent International Festival, serán publicados en la página web del festival durante el mes de octubre de 2026: http://primetheanimation.upv.es
La organización del festival comunicará por email y/o a través de la plataforma FilmFreeway a todos los participantes el resultado de la selección con un mínimo de quince días de antelación.
En ningún caso se exigirá la presencia de los directores/as o representantes de los cortometrajes para ser seleccionados o premiados en el festival.
● CELEBRACIÓN DEL EVENTO
Prime the Animation! 14 New Talent International Festival, tendrá lugar del 24 al 31 de octubre de 2026 en un formato presencial en las diferentes sedes del festival:
• La Facultat de Belles Arts de la Universitat Politècnica de València.
• La Filmoteca - Institut Valencià de Cultura.
• Sedes colaboradoras.
Las proyecciones de los cortometrajes del festival serán sin ánimo de lucro para estudiantes, profesionales y público en general.
● DERECHOS/CESIONES
- Se cederán los derechos de los cortometrajes seleccionados para que puedan ser proyectados durante la celebración del festival en sus sedes.
- Los premiados cederán los derechos de los cortometrajes para que puedan ser proyectados en futuras presentaciones del festival a nivel internacional.
- El autor o autora, productor o productora o distribuidor o distribuidora que inscriba la película declara ser titular, y poseer los derechos sobre la obra haciendo un uso legítimo de ella. Prime The Animation! 14 no se hace responsable de ninguna denuncia por reclamación de derechos de autor por la exhibición pública de películas que contengan material protegido.
- La organización se reserva el derecho de poder utilizar extractos (máximo 20 segundos) o fotogramas de las obras seleccionadas para la promoción de éstas y del mismo festival.
- La inscripción de cortometrajes deberá realizarse mediante la plataforma Filmfreeway (Prime The Animation! 14 New Talent International Festival - FilmFreeway).
