Awards & Prizes

AFRIFF offers Awards in categories such as Feature, Documentary, Short, Animation and Students Short, as well as awards and prizes in Directing, Acting and Screenplay. it also features special awards for Audience choice and a Jury award for outstanding film.

L'AFRIFF offre des récompenses dans des catégories telles que les longs métrages, les documentaires, les courts métrages, l'animation et les courts métrages étudiants, ainsi que des récompenses et des prix dans les catégories "Meilleur réalisateur", "Meilleur acteur ou meilleure actrice", "Meilleur scénario". Il propose également des prix spéciaux, le prix du public et le prix du jury.

Rules & Terms

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Entries must be submitted on online via filmfreeway.com. Foreign language work must be subtitled in English. Please include a concise and complete press kit. Only projects produced within the past calendar year are eligible for consideration.

Les inscriptions de films doivent être soumises en ligne via filmfreeway.com. Les travaux en langue étrangère doivent être sous-titrés en anglais. Veuillez inclure un dossier de presse concis et complet. Seuls les films produits au cours de l’année civile écoulée sont éligibles.

SELECTION & NOTIFICATION
All entries will be viewed by the selection committee/Programming team. The Festival will make no cuts or changes. Festival selections will be announced in October, annually. All entrants will be notified by email. Selected films will also be posted on our website. The festival does not pay rental/screening fees for submitted works in competition.

SÉLECTION
Toutes les candidatures seront étudiées par le comité de sélection / l'équipe de programmation. Le Festival ne fera pas de coupures ou de changements sur les œuvres. Les sélections du festival seront annoncées chaque année en septembre. Tous les participants seront avisés par courrier électronique. Les films sélectionnés seront également annoncés sur le site du Festival. Le Festival ne paie pas de frais de location / diffusion pour les œuvres en compétition.

AWARDS
The festival jury and special guests will present awards to films selected as best in their category, at the festival awards ceremony in November.

PRIX
Le jury du Festival et les invités spéciaux remettront les prix décernés lors de la cérémonie de remise des prix du Festival en novembre.

    AFRIFF has significantly transformed the African film industry. If you appreciate a blend of cinema, networking, and glamour, this is the perfect choice. I felt truly honoured that our short film, MONOLOGUE, received a nomination in the Best Animation Category. We didn't win, but I firmly acknowledge that the award went to the best film in the category, reaffirming the credibility of the award decisions. I shall return next year!

    The Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) was nothing short of extraordinary. To have Becoming Sidney screened among such powerful, thought-provoking films from across the continent and diaspora was an honor and a deeply inspiring experience.

    AFRIFF is more than a festival — it’s a global celebration of African storytelling, creativity, and cinematic excellence. From the passionate audiences to the insightful panels, every moment reflected a true commitment to elevating authentic voices and bold artistic vision. The hospitality, organization, and cultural richness created an atmosphere where filmmakers could truly connect, learn, and grow.

    Witnessing Becoming Sidney resonate with viewers in this space reminded me why we tell stories in the first place — to bridge worlds, challenge perspectives, and spark meaningful conversation.
