Director Biography - Laura Barbato

Laura Ann (“L.A.” ) Barbato was born on December 1, 1983 in New Jersey to Joanne Barbato (Feneck), a registered nurse, and Stephen Barbato, an automotive technician. Her parents were born from Italian immigrant families. Laura spent her early years studying art. She was placed in a program for “gifted and talented” artists at the age of 9, and won various and exceptional art awards starting at the age of 5. Laura studied Criminal Justice at the County College of Morris in Randolph New Jersey. She applied for the New York City Police Department, and was sworn in as a Police Officer for the NYPD on July 9, 2007.
Although a full time Police Officer, in 2009, Laura launched her own independent record label titled “Twelve 83 Records”.
In 2014, Laura produced several music videos, including “Contra Mi” by Latin artist La Mulata, and “I Tastedddd It” by the New York comedian The Loopy Blogger, which is where her love for creating film originated. The ability to plan, create, and execute art digitally became Laura’s newest passion.
In November of 2017, while working as a Police Sergeant for the NYPD, Laura was involved in a near fatal motor vehicle accident, while pursuing a criminal in possession of an illegal firearm and wanted for Attempted Murder (apprehended). Laura was pinned to a cement wall by a vehicle, which left her with multiple broken bones, screws, metal plates, and wires throughout her body. Due to the extent of her injuries, Laura was deemed unable to return as a “full duty” capacity officer, and retired medically from the NYPD in May of 2019.
In July of 2019, Laura expanded her record label into a full entertainment company titled “Twelve 83 Entertainment LLC”. Laura wrote, executive produced, produced, assistant directed and co edited her own first short film titled, ”The Man Who Sold The World”, staring Giancarlo Carmona and Meilin Gray. This was her first short film launched under Twelve 83 Entertainment LLC. “The Man Who Sold The World” would go on to win numerous awards including multiple “Best Thriller” awards from around the world.
Laura is also the creator, producer and director of the anthology series “The Unorthodox Series”; a one-of-a-kind, chilling yet symbolic, story telling adventure captured from first person point of view.
Laura is known for her artistic eye and creative writing, which includes mind blowing plot twists, and realistic yet surreal storylines. She is most inspired by screenwriter and producer Rod Serling, director Alfred Hitchcock, and by the works of Edgar Allan Poe. Laura’s artistic and creative talents, eye for beauty, and life experiences have made her a unique talent in today’s world of entertainment.
