As a musician I fell into video making by accident after taking up running an open mic night. The talent coming to our night was exceptional and needed documenting. After a couple of years capturing live performances I decided to expand this to interviewing both the hosts and performers of Dublin's top open mic nights. The result has been Open Mic Dublin - The Movie, a feature length documentary presenting insightful testimonies, stunning live performances and a few jaw-dropping surprises
This film is the result of 2 years in dept investigation of the open mic scene, the talent and the origins of the scene. We have captured for posterity a time when the scene was very vibrant and the talent occupying that scene was well above average in songwriting ability and performance. We interviewed the best and brightest and they have distinguished themselves in their representation of their ilk. Their talent, experience and knowledge well exceeds the boundaries of the scene we asked them about. They have also honoured themselves as ambassadors for both Dublin and Ireland. I cannot fully express my respect for these individuals and my appreciation for their gifting their time and wisdom, which made this film possible.
