Portugal Interuniversity Film Festival
“Cinema and Knowledge” is the theme of CINENOVA Interuniversity Film Festival, an initiative promoted by the Communication Sciences Department of NOVA-FCSH, whose main goal is to foster the making and exhibition of films with a particular connection with knowledge in its multiple disciplinary and thematic dimensions. Whether it be through fictional or documentary narratives, visual essays or animation, the intention is to encourage creation and debate around the relationship between cinema-knowledge-science-communication.

The 5th edition of CINENOVA Festival will take place in February 20th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd and 24th in Lisbon.

There will be two sections in the festival program: a competition and non-competition segment. The festival comprises two awards: one for the Best Portuguese Film in Competition and one for the overall Best Film in Competition.

Article 1.º - On Admission

a) The filmmaker must be a student enrolled in any course or grade of Higher Education (national or international) at the time of the making of the audiovisual production.

b) It will only be accepted short films up to 30 minutes of duration (including credits).

c) All films competing must have been completed as of January 2022.

d) Films must have an english subtitled screener, if their main language isn’t english, or portuguese.

e) Selected films must have an exhibition copy with english subtitles.

f) The following file formats will be accepted: MP4, MKV, AVI, MOV and MPEG.

g) International or national premiere of the films isn’t required.
Article 2.ª - On submission

a) The festival submission period runs until December 3rd of 2023.

b) Each filmmaker can only submit one film and it will only be considered the first submission. This also means that the submission of a co-creation work makes it impossible for the same filmmakers to submit individual works, and vice versa.

c) In the case of co-creation work, at least one of the filmmakers must be properly enrolled in a higher education institution or film/audiovisual school during the production period.

d) Submissions are free.

e) Submissions will be admitted on the platform www.FilmFreeway.com/cinenova, to which the short film preview link, with English subtitles, available on a streaming video hosting web page, such as VIMEO or YouTube, should be attached.

f) When filling out the form, the documents listed in the following sub-paragraphs must be presented:

f.1.) Proof of enrollment in the Faculty, University or Higher School of the signing director, at the time of conclusion of the work.

f.2.) Upon request, two frames of the audiovisual product in JPG, PNG or TIFF format (minimum 300 dpi resolution) should be sent for disclosure purposes.

f.3.) Submissions with missing documents, incomplete documents, or after the deadline will not be accepted.

g) By submitting the film, the entrant accepts these rules and authorizes the exhibition of the work at the festival and any activity it promotes, assuming responsibility for all related copyrights of the work.

Article 3.º - On selection
a) The selection of entries will be made through curation to be defined by the festival organization, who will constitute a selection committee. Committee members may not be involved in any submitted work.

b) The final result of the selection of works will be sent to the email of the responsible for the registration of each film.

c) Selected filmmakers should submit a quality copy of the work (preferably in HD) via file transfer platforms such as Wetransfer, Sendspace, Box and iCloud, without file compression, to the festival email programacaocinenova@fcsh.unl.pt

d) Exclusivity of selected films is not required and these may be included in the schedule of other festivals. If another festival requires exclusivity, the person responsible for the registration must inform the CINENOVA festival by December 1st of 2023 to be disregarded. Otherwise, the CINENOVA festival reserves all rights to the screening of the submitted film.

Article 4.º - On the prize

a) The Jury will be voting for Best Film in the competition which will receive the NOVA-FCSH Award (1500€).

b) The Jury will be voting for Best Portuguese Film in the competition (1000€).

c) Public and/or private institutions wishing to award special prizes to competing works, based on their own criteria, must first contact the festival organization.

Article 5.º - General provisions

a) The filmmaker and/or responsible for the registration authorizes the exhibition of the registered work, allows the reproduction of the work for the exhibition on the date of the festival, as well as in activities later scheduled by the event organization. It also authorizes the use of segments of the submitted work for disclosure purposes.

b) The organization of the festival is not responsible for the copyright of any images, audio, location or soundtrack of each work, which are the sole responsibility of the registered artists.

c) Entries that do not meet any of the requirements of this regulation will not be selected or they will be disqualified.

d) All entries, including those not selected, will become part of the festival's collection, and may be included in the festival's schedule and displayed in exhibitions held at other partners' circuits, subject to authorization by the festival's coordination and notification of their respective responsible parties.

e) Participants of the competition selection may not be collaborators nor be part of the festival team.

f) Cases not covered in this regulation will be analyzed by the festival organizing committee.

Festival Interuniversitário de Cinema e Conhecimento
"Cinema e Conhecimento” é o tema do Festival Interuniversitário de Cinema promovido pelo Departamento de Ciências da Comunicação da NOVA-FCSH, cujo principal objetivo é promover a realização e exibição de filmes com uma particular relação com o conhecimento nas suas múltiplas dimensões disciplinares e temáticas. Sejam elas através de narrativas ficcionais, documentais, ensaísticas ou animação. Assim, pretende-se incentivar a criação e o debate em torno da relação cinema-conhecimento-ciência-comunicação.

A 5.ª Edição do Festival CINENOVA é promovida pela NOVA-FCSH e parceiros e será realizada nos dias 20, 21, 22, 23 e 24 de fevereiro de 2024 em Lisboa. Terá uma secção de competição e uma secção de não-competição.

O Festival compreende dois prémios: um prémio para o Melhor Filme Português a Concurso e um prémio para o Melhor Filme a Concurso.

Artigo 1.º – Sobre a admissão
a) O/A realizador/a deve ser um/a aluno/a devidamente matriculado/a em qualquer curso ou grau de instituição de Ensino Superior (nacional ou internacional) à época da realização da produção audiovisual.
b) Serão aceites curtas-metragens até 30 minutos de duração (incluindo os créditos).
c) Todos os trabalhos a concurso devem ter sido concluídos a partir de janeiro de 2022.
d) Os filmes inscritos devem ter um ​screener ​legendado em inglês, caso não sejam em inglês ou português.
e) Os filmes selecionados deverão ter uma cópia de exibição legendada em inglês.
f) Serão aceites os seguintes formatos de arquivo: MP4, MKV, AVI, MOV e MPEG.
g) Não é exigida a estreia internacional ou nacional dos filmes concorrentes.

Artigo 2.º – Sobre a submissão de filmes ao festival
a) O período de submissões ao festival decorre até dia 3 de dezembro de 2023​.
b) Cada realizador/a poderá submeter apenas um trabalho para o festival e será considerada a primeira submissão. Significa isto, igualmente, que a submissão de um trabalho em co-realização inviabiliza a submissão de trabalhos individuais por parte desses mesmos realizadores, e vice-versa.
c) No caso de co-realização de uma obra, pelo menos um dos realizadores deve estar devidamente matriculado numa instituição de Ensino Superior ou escola de cinema/audiovisual, durante o período de realização do filme.
d) As submissões são gratuitas.
e) A submissão será́ feita exclusivamente através da plataforma www.Filmfreeway.com/cinenova, ao qual deverá ser anexado o link de visualização da curta-metragem, com legendagem em inglês, disponibilizada em página web de alojamento de vídeo em ​streaming​, como por exemplo, o VIMEO ou YouTube.
f) No preenchimento do formulário têm de constar obrigatoriamente os documentos listados nas subalíneas seguintes:
f.1) Comprovativo de vínculo com a Faculdade, Universidade ou Escola Superior do/a realizador/a assinante, à época da realização da obra;
f.2) Deverão ser enviados, quando solicitados, dois frames do produto audiovisual em formato JPG, PNG ou TIFF (resolução mínima de 300 dpi) para efeitos de divulgação;
f.3) Não serão admitidas submissões com documentos em falta, documentos incompletos, ou fora do prazo de inscrições.
g) Ao submeter o seu filme, o/a responsável pela inscrição aceita este regulamento e autoriza a exibição do trabalho no festival e em qualquer atividade que este promova, assumindo a responsabilidade por todos os direitos autorais conexos da obra.

Artigo 3.º – Sobre a seleção
a) A seleção dos trabalhos inscritos será feita por meio de curadoria a ser definida pela organização do festival, que constituirá um comité de seleção. Os membros do comité não podem ter envolvimento com nenhum trabalho submetido.
b) O resultado final da seleção das obras será enviado para o e-mail do responsável pela inscrição de cada trabalho.
c) Os responsáveis pelos filmes selecionados deverão encaminhar uma cópia do trabalho com qualidade (preferencialmente em HD) através de plataformas de transferência de arquivo, como por exemplo Wetransfer, Sendspace, Box e iCloud, sem compactação do arquivo, para o e-mail do festival ​programacaocinenova@fcsh.unl.pt
d) Não é exigida a exclusividade dos filmes selecionados, sendo que estes podem estar incluídos na programação de outros festivais. Caso outro festival exija exclusividade o/a responsável pela inscrição deve informar o festival CINENOVA até dia 1 de dezembro de 2023 para que este seja desconsiderado. Caso contrário o festival CINENOVA reserva todos os direitos sobre a exibição do filme submetido.

Artigo 4.º – Sobre o prémio
a) Será eleito pelo Júri o Melhor Filme a Concurso ao qual será atribuído o Prémio NOVA FCSH no valor de 1500€.
b) Será eleito pelo Júri o Melhor Filme Português a concurso no valor de 1000€.
c) As instituições públicas e/ou privadas que desejem conceder prémios especiais às obras concorrentes, com base nos seus próprios critérios, devem contactar previamente a organização do festival.

Artigo 5.º – Disposições gerais
a) O/A realizador/a e/ou responsável pela inscrição autoriza a exibição da obra inscrita, permite a reprodução da obra tanto para a exibição na data do festival, como em atividades posteriormente programadas pela organização do evento. Autoriza ainda a utilização de segmentos do trabalho submetido para efeitos de divulgação.
b) A organização do festival não se responsabiliza pelos direitos autorais de quaisquer imagens, áudio, locação ou trilha sonora de cada obra, sendo estas da total responsabilidade dos realizadores dos trabalhos inscritos no momento de submissão.
c) As obras inscritas que não atenderem a alguma das exigências previstas neste regulamento não serão selecionadas ou serão desclassificadas.
d) As obras inscritas, incluindo as não selecionadas, passarão a integrar o acervo do Festival, podendo ser incluídas na programação do mesmo e exibidas em mostras realizadas em circuitos dos demais parceiros, mediante autorização da coordenação do festival e notificação dos respetivos responsáveis.
e) É proibida a submissão de filmes em que membros da equipa do festival tenham trabalhado.
f) Casos omissos neste regulamento serão analisados pela comissão organizadora do festival.
g) Quaisquer outras dúvidas sobre o regulamento ou o festival poderão ser esclarecidas através do e-mail ​cinenova@fcsh.unl.pt
