Pleasure Dome welcomes submissions of experimental, time-based media work by Canadian and international artists for our 2024-2025 programming year.

The deadline for submissions is Friday, April 26, 2024 at 11:59 PM (EST)

For the 2024 season, we have two open calls:

(1) New Toronto Works 2024
- The work must have been made in the last 12 months (made no earlier than March 2023)
- The work must have been made by an artist/filmmaker who is based in Toronto or the GTA (Greater Toronto Area)

(2) Open Call

Currently, we are revisiting our organization's commitment to presenting experimental, political, and subversive film. We are asking: whose or what kinds of work has historically been included and excluded from these categories? What might it mean to re-imagine the experimental in ways that are more expansive?

As Pleasure Dome, we are also invested in asking what it means to have pleasure or the right to pleasure, or to prioritize pleasure, during times of difficulty and global strife?

All works submitted to our 2024 open call will be considered by the programming committee for two years after submission. Artists who submit to the open call category will therefore not receive a notice of acceptance or rejection until that time (unless their work is programmed between 2024-2026, in which case they will be notified).

WHEN YOU SUBMIT, PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE SELECTED THE CORRECT CATEGORY

Pleasure Dome's values include Radical Welcome and Connection, Encouragement and Support, Multiplicity and Diversity, Challenge and Respect, Freedom and Pleasure.

Pleasure Dome is committed to equitable programming. We prioritize showing work by artists from marginalized backgrounds that include but are not limited to artists who are BIPOC, artists who are self-taught or working outside of academically-trained contexts, low-income and working-class artists, artists from other marginalized backgrounds including marginalized or oppressed faith backgrounds, artists with disabilities, artists who are neurodivergent, and 2SLGBTQIA+ artists.

Everyone is welcome and encouraged to apply.

We accept single-channel films as well as multi-channel or expanded cinema projects, installation, and performance. If the form of your project is not well suited to single-channel streaming, please include relevant links to additional materials in the project description or notes. We can accommodate 35mm, Regular / Super 8, 16mm, VHS, DVD, and Blu-Ray, and Digital files. Please incorporate keywords in your synopsis.

For more information about our year-round programming, see https://pdome.org/about/programming-process-and-policy

While we appreciate the breadth and prolific nature of your practice, please apply with a maximum of three proposed works, choosing the ones that are most aligned with our organization's mandate and values.

Your entry fee contributes to the critical understanding of experimental and access to experimental film and media arts, and all proceeds go directly back into Pleasure Dome. We thank you for supporting independent and experimental media and film.

Pleasure Dome does not offer awards or prizes, but all selected artists are paid screening fees at or above IMAA recommended rates for 2024.

We would like to acknowledge funding support from The Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Arts Council, the Government of Ontario, and the Toronto Arts Council. Pleasure Dome's operations and programming are made possible through the generous support of our funders, as well as our members, sponsors, and community partners.

The deadline for submissions to both the New Toronto Works 2024 and our annual Open Call is Friday, April 26, 2024 at 11:59 PM (ET).

The Open Call is open to artists who reside in Canada or internationally.

For New Toronto Works, artists must be based in Toronto or the Greater Toronto Area, or have been based there at the time that the work was made.

Selected artists will be paid screening fees at the IMAA recommended rates for 2024.

Before submitting your work for consideration, we encourage you to familiarize yourself with our mandate and values, to make sure your work is an appropriate fit.

Beautiful Festival. They are very kind. <3

  • I am amazed by the quick decisions surrounding the New Toronto Works exhibition in the wake of COVID-19. Pleasure Dome was in regular contact with us, allowing us to keep up with their strategies to continue with the exhibition date as planned.

The update of their platform and the format of the event were perfect. The artist panel was very planned, and the public was engaged.

I am honoured to have been part of this festival and to have been able to show work during times of isolation. This is an exceptional experience, and being part of it was beautiful.

  • An amazing venue, Theresa works hard to provide great programming, and if it weren’t for Pleasure Dome I would never have shown in Toronto. These are people who support the artist in every sense. I would be honored to show with Pleasure Dome again.
